Canada Skilled Immigration

Express Entry Program

A foreign worker must meet certain standards and have one (1) year of admissible experience in order to be eligible to immigrate to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker programme. Candidates are evaluated based on the six (6) selection criteria, which include language proficiency, education, work experience, age, job offer, and Canadian adaptation. Foreign skilled employees accrue points in each category, needing a minimum of 67 points to qualify. The list of prerequisites is listed below.

Step 1 - Selection Factors

Federal Skilled Worker candidates must score at least 67 points (out of 100) across all six selection criteria in order to be eligible for Express Entry immigration. These requirements are parts of a 100-point "selection grid" for the system. Every one awards a specific number of Federal Skilled Worker points. A candidate who receives 67 points or more may begin the immigration process by submitting an Express Entry Profile to the pool. To apply for permanent residency, only those applicants with the highest CRS scores are contacted.

Maximum points in the grid under six factors:

  • Language Proficiency in English or French: 28 points maximum.
  • Education: 25 maximum points.
  • Work Experience: 15 maximum points.
  • Age: 12 maximum points.
  • Valid Job Offer or Arranged Employment in Canada - 10 points maximum.
  • Adaptability (your likelihood of settling in Canada); 10 maximum points.

Step 2: Additional Requirements If the "67 Pass-mark" is reached

Candidate must have 1 year of work experience that was:
  • In the same job
  • Paid
  • Continuous and
  • Gained within the last 10 years.

It's important to note that the Federal Skilled Worker Stream only allows immigration for specific professions and employment. Based on the skill type and level, the National Occupational Classification System (NOC) is used to determine if a work experience is on the list of eligible jobs. Therefore, NOC skill levels A or B or skill type 0 are acceptable. The candidate must demonstrate that they completed all of the tasks listed in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC.

Supervisors, dentists, doctors, architects, cooks, plumbers, and electricians are a few examples of acceptable professions. However, Canada regulates the majority of these professions. Lawyers, doctors, engineers, and other professionals are governed by provincial regulating agencies. If a foreign worker immigrates in a profession that is regulated, they would only be permitted to work in that profession with a regulatory body's permission. This typically indicates that a candidate is granted a licence by a provincial regulatory organisation.

Language ability

It is necessary to achieve a minimum score of seven (seven) on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in each of the four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The language test is available in English or French for applicants. There are two options for English: CELPIP or IELTS. Under Express Entry, only the "General" (not academic!) option is recognised. The TEF test is the sole available choice for French. When an applicant submits or applies for permanent residency, the language test result must be less than two (2) years old. IELTS, CELPIP, and TEF exam results can be converted into comparable CLB levels using language test equivalence charts.

Education

Foreign nationals with education in Canada must provide a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian secondary or post-secondary institution in order to satisfy the education requirement and receive points. Candidates must demonstrate that their overseas education is on par with their Canadian education. You can do this by asking one of the recognised agencies for an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report:

  • Comparative Education Service (CES), University of Toronto.
  • International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS).
  • International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES), British Columbia Institute Technology.
  • International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), Government of Alberta.
  • World Education Services (WES).
  • The Medical Council of Canada (MCC).
  • The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC).

Applicants must provide evidence that they have enough money to cover for basic needs for themselves and family.

How do I apply to immigrate to Canada as a provincial nominee?

A Canadian province or territory must nominate you if you want to immigrate to Canada through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

You must first submit an application to the PNP in the province or territory where you intend to settle. You must meet the requirements in terms of education, work experience, and abilities in order to be eligible to immigrate to Canada and support your family.

Your ability to meet both the economic and labour market needs of the province or territory and of Canada will be evaluated by them. You can ask them how long it will take for your application to be processed.

Your next step is to submit an application for permanent residency within the time frame specified by the province or territory once it has approved your initial application. You will be informed by the province or territory as to whether you must use the Express Entry system or the standard application process.

To be considered for nomination under an Express Entry PNP stream, you must first create an Express Entry profile and be admitted into the pool if you are not already a member. Utilizing our Come to Canada tool will let you start the process.

Nomination through a PNP stream other than Express Entry: Those who were nominated for permanent residence through a PNP stream other than Express Entry should submit an application for permanent residence through the standard procedure.

From one province to the next, the criteria for receiving a Provincial Nominee Certificate may vary. Before you apply, find out what you need to do by visiting their websites.
